Taxes paid by homeowners and renters (passed on to them in their rent by property owners) have risen too high for these two reasons: 1) our city has lost much of its commercial tax base and 2) city spending has not been sufficiently controlled.
Our city budget must re-focus on essential services (not the incumbents’ pet projects). We must be extremely judicious about funding new programs and subsidies. I will work to cut taxes, expand our commercial tax base, and attract more tourism.
